About Dr. Lewis Jacobson

Lewis Jacobson, MD, is board-certified in both Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and is in practice at the Naab Road Surgical Group in Indianapolis. Dr. Jacobson specializes in treating severely injured trauma patients and is the Medical Director of the St. Vincent Indianapolis Level 1 Trauma Center and the Trauma/Neuro/Surgical Intensive Care Unit. He also serves as Chair of the Department of Surgery. 

Dr. Jacobson earned his medical degree from the University of Cape Town Medical School in Cape Town, South Africa. He then completed his residency in general surgery at Sinai Hospital of Detroit in Detroit, Michigan and subsequently a two year fellowship specializing in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. 

Dr. Jacobson then spent 18 years at the Indiana University/Wishard Memorial Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center before being recruited to start the St. Vincent Indianapolis Trauma program. He is a former State Chair of the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and is a current member of the National Committee on Trauma. He is also a member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery and the Indiana State Department of Health Trauma Care Committee. 

Dr. Jacobson is a Student Course Director for the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Course and co-author of the Musculoskeletal Trauma chapter in the 10th edition of the ATLS Student Course Manual. 

Dr. Jacobson and his wife have two sons and one daughter.
