St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital has engaged Dr. Jacobson to lead its effort to become a Level II Trauma Program.
A graduate of the University of Cape Town Medical School, Cape Town, South Africa, Dr. Jacobson completed his General Surgery Residency at Sinai Hospital of Detroit, Michigan, and Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Fellowships at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida.
Dr. Jacobson joined the Department of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1991 and was an Associate Professor of Surgery with Tenure prior to joining the Naab Road Surgical Group. He spent 18 years at IU/Wishard Memorial Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center and participated in six consecutive, successful Level 1 Trauma Verification visits by the American College of Surgeons. He is the State Chair of the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and is a member of the Eastern Association for Surgery of Trauma (EAST), American Association for Surgery of Trauma (AAST), and Indiana State Department of Health Trauma System Advisory Task Force.
Dr. Jacobson serves as instructor for Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) courses as well as Regional Faculty and instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course. Combining years of experience in trauma and tremendous leadership skills, Dr. Jacobson will bring a wealth of experience to our St. Vincent ministry in the continuum of care to our St. Vincent communities.
In addition to his expertise in Trauma, Dr. Jacobson has a special interest and expertise/experience in liver surgery, gastrointestinal oncology and inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Jacobson and his wife have 2 sons at IU and a daughter who is a freshman at Zionsville High School.
