In the summer of 1972, Dr. E. Dale Habegger moved his General Surgery
practice to its present location when St. Vincent Hospital moved from
its downtown Fall Creek Parkway location in Indianapolis to the then
outskirts on 86th Street. He was joined by Dr.David W. Price to start
the practice known as the General, Thoracic and Pediatric Surgery Corporation,
and thus began more than three decades of surgical care at this location.
In 1989, the name of the group was changed to become the Naab Road
Surgical Group, and became the first surgical group in Indianapolis
to have a surgeon dedicated to the care of breast disease. Because breast
care had become so specialized, the Indiana Center for Breast Disease
was established as a part of the Naab Road Surgical Group to
treat all forms of breast disease. In the mid 1990s, other surgeons
in the group were among the first to perform laparoscopic hernia and
cholecystectomy (gallbladder) surgery. Then in 1999, the group was involved
with the development of the St. Vincent Carmel Bariatric Center and
in having surgeons specialize in weight loss (bariatric) surgery.
In the process of offering the very best care for our patients, over
the years five of our surgeons have been selected by the Indianapolis
Monthly Magazine's survey as "Top Docs", several for as many as three
separate times.
Naab Road Surgical Group now consists of six surgeons covering a wide
spectrum of general surgery areas of special interest including breast
diseases, weight loss (bariatrics), surgical oncology, esophageal, liver surgery, gastrointestinal oncology and inflammatory bowel disease, laparoscopic
and minimally invasive surgery.
To provide the most comprehensive general surgery care in terms of
quality, cost, and long term effectiveness through our surgical skills,
leadership and teamwork among our surgeons and support staff.
To be continually available and accessible to our patients and referring
physicians and to maintain the reputation of providing surgical care
that is above reproach.
To provide the widest and most comprehensive range or general
surgery services that are at the leading edge of medical/surgical
technology.
To train future physicians (residents and IU medical students) and
physician assistants (Butler University PA Program) with the same
dedication and commitment to the quality of life that our patients
deserve through the proper diagnosis and treatment of surgical
conditions.
